The magic of tomatoes- Sugo all’amatriciana.

It is no secret that I love being Italian and I love to cook. Most Italian food is very simple and, in that simplicity, comes happiness to the senses. Just writing this I can smell this sauce simmering, briefly, on my stove-top. The kitchen aura created an image of my grandmother Amelia, apron around her 4’10” 205-pound frame, wet hands ready to hold my face and kiss my cheek. What I wouldn't give for that kiss just one more time.…

29 Days, 6 hours, 33 minutes, and 30 seconds (and counting)

From the time of this posting, in the days, hours, minutes, and seconds listed above, I will have one college graduate and one college sophomore. How did this happen and where are the little versions of them? I believe they are still there. When the phone rings, anytime of the day and I hear, “Mom?” my heart stops for a minute. We have used duck, eggs, peaches, pears, and probably over 2 dozen different types of cheese. Chip is having hand surgery on Monday, so this is our swan song pizza night for a while anyway. This jump started my mind into thoughts of other dinner possibilities for the weekends. I have quite an…

Jack, I am glad you are not a penguin.

Penguins are mostly monogamous, but, some species like the Emperor Penguin are serially monogamous. They partner with one mate for a season rather than for life. Chip and I took the kids to the Boston aquarium when they were little. Jack was mesmerized by the penguins and we watched them for a while. Oddly,…
